As part of this year’s Phizzfest community arts festival, Phibsboro For All presents a compelling afternoon of film and conversation exploring themes of displacement, migration and activism. The event, taking place on Sunday, May 11 at 4 PM in The Pillar Room, Mater Hospital (Eccles Street entrance), will feature the screening of two thought-provoking films produced by director Dennis Harvey.
The event aims to foster dialogue and awareness around the refugee experience, showcasing:
- “I Must Away” (2023) – A 75-minute documentary following a young migrant filmmaker reflecting on his journey through heartfelt letters to his grandmother in Ireland.
- “The Building and Burning of a Refugee Camp” (2024) – A powerful 20-minute short film exploring the destruction of a refugee camp and the trauma left in its wake. (Trigger warning: this film contains references to violence and racism.)
Following the screenings, director Dennis Harvey will join a dynamic panel for a live Q&A session. Panellists include:
- Niamh McDonald (Hope and Courage Collective)
- Mpho Mokotso (Dublin South City Partnership)
- Caoimhe Butterly (Human Rights Activist & Filmmaker)
- A refugee with lived experience of homelessness in Ireland
Tickets are priced at €10 (+ €1.20 booking fee) and can be purchased via www.phizzfest.ie. However, Refugees and International Protection Applicants are encouraged to register for free tickets by contacting phibsboroforall@gmail.com.
This poignant event invites all members of the community to come together, listen, and reflect on the diverse stories of refugeehood, migration and resilience shaping Ireland today.
